WASHINGTON, June 12 — The Department of War has released a new batch of declassified files related to Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP), including a 1948 U.S.

Navy report on flying discs and U.S. Air Force analyses, as part of its PURSUE declassification effort.

The documents, which were posted publicly at war.gov/UFO, provide insight into the early efforts of the U.S. military to evaluate the phenomenon of UAP. A memorandum from the Commandant of the 5th Naval District cites a memorandum related to “flying discs” from the Chief of Naval Operations, and requests that naval stations report incidents to the nearest Air Force command and to the Naval District Intelligence Office. These reports include a “Check-List – Unidentified Flying Objects” that contains details about the incident, as well as witness lists or statements and other narrative reports or descriptions.

The files also contain a copy of the CIA’s 1953 “Report of the Scientific Panel on Unidentified Flying Objects” that was sent to the Secretary of Defense.

The release of these documents is part of the third tranche of declassified UAP files, ordered by President Donald Trump. Officials stress that an unresolved classification does not imply an extraterrestrial origin, and that no confirmed evidence of alien craft or beings has been presented.

The declassified files provide a unique glimpse into the historical context of UAP research, and demonstrate the U.S. military’s early efforts to understand and evaluate the phenomenon.

The documents are now available for public review. The release of these documents marks an important step in increasing transparency and public awareness of UAP research.
