Fujifilm to Launch instax Link WIDE 2 Printer in Japan on October 9

TOKYO, September 16 — Fujifilm will put a new wide-format instant printer in Japanese hands next month. The company announced on September 15 from its Tokyo headquarters that the instax Link WIDE 2, a smartphone printer producing instax prints twice the size of mini-format output, goes on sale in Japan on October 9. The device follows the instax Link WIDE, the model Fujifilm credits with global success for its large, vivid prints of group photos and landscapes.

The successor keeps the WIDE print area and adds a redesigned body and upgraded functionality.

A printer, not a camera

The Link WIDE 2 prints images stored on smartphones rather than capturing photographs itself. That distinction matters for how the product is used — the phone remains the camera, and the printer turns selected shots into physical instax prints. The dedicated app now carries a function called Photo Mixer, which automatically creates and suggests collage designs by combining multiple images.

Fujifilm describes the result as scrapbook-like prints assembled from favourite photos of places, people and memorable moments already on the user’s phone. The large WIDE format is central to the pitch.

According to the company, the print area allows highlights from trips, events and other occasions — material that could not previously fit into a single print — to be brought together in one keepsake.

How Photo Mixer works

Fujifilm outlined a three-step workflow. The app generates and suggests collage designs based on the photos a user selects; the user picks a preferred design; the app then generates new collage designs reflecting that selection. Once a collage is chosen, the app automatically adjusts image size, angle, layout, text placement and font style to refine the design, creating a collage tailored to the user’s preferences.

Suggested collages can also be edited before printing. Beyond adjusting the size and placement of photos, users can add text and stamps to further customise the design.

The app also includes a cutout function powered by image analysis technology. It automatically extracts people and objects from photos, allowing users to incorporate highlights of memorable moments into collages. By incorporating cutout images, users can create scrapbook-like collages that emphasise favourite people and objects, resulting in more dynamic and personalised instax prints.

Two-tone body, two colour options

The new body design uses a two-tone colour scheme combining a soft light colour with a sophisticated dark colour. It comes in two options, “Duo Beige” and “Duo Blue.” The printer can be displayed with either the light-coloured side or the dark-coloured side facing outward, letting users change its appearance to match their mood or room decor. Fujifilm stated it will continue to expand the world of the instax instant photo system by proposing new ways to enjoy photography through instax prints.

No pricing information was included in the announcement, and the company did not specify availability outside Japan. For now, the October 9 launch is a Japan-only release date, with international buyers left to watch for a wider rollout.
