Sony Unveils Transparent Prism Collection PS5 Controllers and Covers for February 2027

Sony Interactive Entertainment has introduced the Prism Collection, a line of transparent accessories for the PlayStation 5 that arrives next year. The announcement details three new colorways for DualSense controllers and matching console covers with pre-orders scheduled to begin on November 10.

A Modern Look at Internal Components

The new collection features Flare Orange, Emerald Green, and Graphite Gray designs that utilize a high-gloss clear finish. This material extends across the back of the controller to reveal the technology powering the DualSense while maintaining a sleek appearance. The design team aims to modernize the late 1990s see-through trend to give players a closer look at the craftsmanship behind the hardware.

According to Leo Cardoso and Satoshi Aoyagi from the Color, Material, and Finish design team, the initiative grew from an interest in bringing a transparent appearance to the PS5. They noted that the metallic finish on the middle cover brings contrasting surfaces together for a premium look consistent with the current generation of consoles.

Tiered Pricing and Availability

The Prism Collection DualSense wireless controllers carry a recommended retail price of $84.99 USD globally. Matching PS5 console covers are priced at $74.99 USD, placing them ten dollars below the controller cost. These covers will be available exclusively directly from PlayStation in 11 countries or through select retailers elsewhere.

Pre-orders for the Prism Collection start on November 10, 2026, at 10am local time directly from PlayStation where available. The accessories will launch globally starting on February 4, 2027, though exact dates and availability may vary by country or region.

Specific Color Characteristics

The Flare Orange color subtly takes on a rosy hue where the transparent material overlaps with other surfaces. The Emerald Green features a deep hunter green that gains depth through its transparency. The Graphite Gray presents a cool-toned storm gray design intended to complement the futuristic aesthetic of the hardware.

Technical Context and Design History

The technical reality of this release is a deliberate return to form for PlayStation accessories. Earlier this year, Microsoft announced a 25th-anniversary version of the Xbox Series X featuring a design inspired by the original Xbox with translucent green finishes. This context highlights a broader industry interest in revisiting legacy design aesthetics.

The high-gloss clear finish allows users to peer under the hood at the internal mechanics without sacrificing the monochromatic look Sony prefers. The exact launch date and availability of the accessories may vary by country or region as noted in the official PlayStation blog post dated October 28, 2026.

Isabelle Tomatis, vice president of global marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment, stated that the collection offers players a closer look into the design and craftsmanship behind their consoles. The detail that matters is the shift from solid plastic to transparent materials that showcase the engineering inside the DualSense unit.

Global Pricing and Regional Distribution

The Prism Collection DualSense wireless controllers are set for a global release with a recommended retail price of ¥12,480 in Japan, including tax. For European markets, the controllers are priced at €84.99 or £74.99. The matching console covers are priced at ¥9,980 in Japan, including tax, while European customers can purchase them for €74.99 or £64.99.

Sony has established a specific distribution strategy for the console covers, which will be sold exclusively through its own online store in 11 countries: the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain, Portugal, and Italy. In regions outside of these 11 countries, the console covers will be available in limited quantities through select retailers. Pre-orders for the European markets open at 10am local time on November 10, 2026, via playstation.com/store/hardware, while players in the U.S. can place orders starting at 7:00am PT or 10:00am ET on the same day through direct.playstation.com.
