GTA 6 PS5 Will Play Better Than Xbox Series X|S Version

LOS ANGELES, June 24 — A technical analysis of the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI has concluded that the game will run better on the PlayStation 5 than on the Xbox Series X or Series S, according to a report published by PlayStation LifeStyle. The assessment, filed by the outlet’s technical team, examined the hardware specifications of each console against the demands of Rockstar Games’ next open-world title.

Sources familiar with the analysis indicated that the PS5’s custom solid-state drive and unified memory architecture deliver a measurable advantage in texture streaming and load times, two areas critical to the seamless city rendering GTA VI is expected to require. On the timeline, the report arrives roughly six months before GTA VI’s scheduled launch window.

Take-Two Interactive, the publisher, has not issued a statement addressing the performance gap. Rockstar Games also declined to comment on the record. The analysis found that the Xbox Series S, the lower-cost model in Microsoft’s lineup, presents the most significant compromise.

Its reduced GPU and memory bandwidth, according to the report, will force developers to lower resolution targets and possibly reduce draw distances compared to the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions. The Series X, while closer in raw power, still lags behind the PS5 in asset streaming speed due to differences in how each console’s storage system handles decompression.

A single paragraph cannot capture the full scope of the findings. The PS5’s dedicated decompression hardware, the report stated, allows it to feed data to the GPU faster than either Xbox model. That matters in a game where a player in a speeding car can cross the entire map in minutes.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has positioned the PS5’s internal architecture as a differentiator since the console launched. This GTA VI analysis gives that claim concrete weight. For players deciding which platform to buy, the record now shows a measurable performance gap — not a theoretical one.

What remains unclear is whether Microsoft will adjust its development tools or release updated hardware before GTA VI ships. The company has not signaled any such move.

Rockstar, for its part, has focused its public messaging on a single launch date across all platforms, declining to specify whether any version will be considered the lead SKU. Watch for Rockstar’s next technical deep dive. If the studio releases new gameplay footage or performance metrics, it will either confirm or complicate the findings in this report.

Until then, the analysis stands as the most detailed public document on the subject.
