BROOKLYN, October 19, 2026 — Krasnyi Oktyabr has expanded its seafood recall to include lot No. D080-148 of Starfish Seafood Premium Cold Smoked Norwegian Salmon after testing confirmed potential Listeria contamination.
The recalled salmon is sold in 8-ounce vacuum-sealed packages with an expiration date of Nov. 27, 2027, and was distributed to Florida, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Georgia. The recall was initiated after the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets found Listeria during routine testing, according to the company’s announcement and subsequent FDA notices.
Identifying the Affected Product
Consumers can identify the recalled salmon by its UPC code 4751048940099, lot number D080-148, and best-before date of Nov. 27, 2027. The product is sold frozen in sliced form and originated from Latvia. This recall is separate from an earlier action on Oct. 9 involving Starfish Seafood Smoked Trio, which covered lot D139149161-153 with an expiration date of Dec. 1, 2027, and was distributed to New York, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
Health Risks Associated with Listeria
Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious illness, particularly in pregnant women, newborns, adults over 65, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, headache, and stiff neck, with onset possible up to 70 days after exposure. Invasive infections may lead to confusion, loss of balance, or seizures. The CDC notes that listeriosis results in approximately 1,250 cases and 172 deaths annually in the United States. Freezing does not kill Listeria, meaning the stored product remains a risk even if kept frozen.
Steps for Safe Disposal and Kitchen Cleaning
Consumers are advised not to eat the recalled salmon and to either return it to the place of purchase for a full refund or discard it securely in a manner that prevents access by pets or wildlife. Any surfaces that came into contact with the product — including shelves, drawers, cutting boards, and refrigerator interiors — should be cleaned with hot, soapy water. The FDA notice urges consumers to check both freezers and refrigerators for the affected lot codes.
How to Obtain a Refund or Get Assistance
Krasnyi Oktyabr Inc. has set up a consumer hotline at 718-858-6720, available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time, for questions about the recall. The company notified its wholesale customers to stop selling the product and has asked retailers to remove it from shelves. No illnesses have been reported to date, according to the FDA. The recall notice was published by the FDA on Oct. 16, following the company’s voluntary action. Consumers seeking refunds should return the product with proof of purchase where possible, though stores are instructed to accept returns regardless. The technical reality, as ever, is that prompt action reduces risk — and in this case, the detail that matters is checking the label.
Geographic Scope Of Recall
The recall of Starfish Seafood Premium Cold Smoked Norwegian Salmon affects several states, including Florida, New York, Georgia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, according to the FDA notice posted on Oct. 16.
This recall is separate from an earlier recall announced on Oct. 9, which covered different states, including Massachusetts, North Carolina, and South Carolina, in addition to some of the same states affected by this recall.
The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets found possible Listeria contamination during product sampling, prompting Krasnyi Oktyabr Inc. to initiate the recall, as reported on Oct. 18 by CBS12.
