Philips posts EUR 4.4B revenue as margins expand 70 basis points in Q3 2026

AMSTERDAM, November 4, 2026 — Royal Philips posted EUR 4.4 billion in third-quarter revenue as comparable order intake surged 8% year on year, lifting the adjusted EBITA margin 70 basis points to 13.0%. The Dutch health-technology group also disclosed an agreement in principle with the US Department of Justice to resolve investigations tied to its Respironics recall, a step that triggered a EUR 288 million provision and dragged net income down to EUR 28 million from EUR 187 million a year earlier.

Orders Power Margin Expansion

The shift is visible in the order book. Comparable order intake rose 8%, led by Diagnosis & Treatment, where demand is running at a clip approaching 20% with double-digit gains in both Image Guided Therapy and Precision Diagnosis, according to Citi analysis cited by Investing.com. Group comparable sales grew 3%, propelled by Personal Health at 8% and Connected Care at 5%, while Diagnosis & Treatment sales were flat as growth in Image Guided Therapy was offset by weaker Precision Diagnosis revenue, reflecting Ultrasound timing and lower China sales.

Higher sales, improved gross margin and productivity measures drove the 70-basis-point margin expansion across all three segments, partly offset by cost inflation. Operating cash flow climbed to EUR 544 million and free cash flow reached EUR 384 million. Philips said it remains on track to deliver EUR 1.5 billion in savings under its 2026-2028 productivity program.

Segment Dynamics: Diagnosis & Treatment vs Personal Health

What’s changing underneath the headline numbers is a divergence between orders and sales in the core hospital business. Diagnosis & Treatment orders are accelerating — Image Guided Therapy and Precision Diagnosis both posting double-digit growth — yet segment revenue stalled as Precision Diagnosis sales dipped on Ultrasound timing and China headwinds flagged in the second-quarter release. The segment’s adjusted EBITA margin still improved 50 basis points to 12.3% on innovation-related gross margin gains and productivity.

Personal Health delivered the strongest sales momentum at 8%, helped by the AI-powered Sonicare DiamondClean 9900 Prestige and the Lumea 9900 Pro at-home IPL device. Connected Care grew 5% and extended a patient-monitoring partnership with one of the largest US health systems through 2034, expanding use of the Philips Capsule platform.

Respironics Settlement Advances

Philips confirmed an agreement in principle between Respironics and the US Department of Justice regarding criminal and civil investigations linked to the Sleep & Respiratory Care recall. The EUR 288 million provision reflects this step; payment is expected in the first quarter of 2027, subject to final documentation. Other Respironics-related proceedings remain outside the agreement. The legal charge limited the conversion of operational progress into reported earnings, with net income falling to EUR 28 million.

Full-Year Outlook Reaffirmed

Management reiterated its 2026 targets: comparable sales growth of 3% to 4.5%, adjusted EBITA margin of 13.5% to 14.0%, and free cash flow of EUR 1.5 billion to EUR 1.7 billion. The margin range includes an expected benefit of about 1 percentage point from US tariff refunds, while the cash-flow target includes a net benefit of about EUR 200 million. Year-to-date results and a strong order book underpin confidence in the full-year outlook and medium-term ambitions, the company said.

Market Reaction and Analyst Commentary

Shares jumped 3.22% to EUR 25.31 on the Euronext Amsterdam close Tuesday, touching an eight-month high and sharply outperforming a declining AEX index. On Lang & Schwarz, the stock traded at EUR 27.31 Wednesday at 18:07 CET, 0.04% above the Xetra close of EUR 25.75, which itself was 6.02% above the prior session. Citi described the quarter as mixed: adjusted EBITA and Connected Care beat expectations, but sluggish Diagnosis & Treatment sales momentum raised questions about Philips’ ability to hit its 2027 and medium-term growth ambitions. The bank also noted Philips’ 8% group order growth compared with 4% at GE HealthCare this quarter, though Philips’ four-year cumulative order growth of 1.5% still trails GE HealthCare’s 3%.

Innovation Pipeline and Partnerships

The trend underneath the margin story is an AI-driven product cycle. Philips highlighted new CT platforms Verida and Rembra, the Alturion ultrasound system, and the HealthSuite Imaging cloud solution as evidence of platforms that bring hardware, software, data and AI together. In the Netherlands, the company is investing EUR 50 million in AI, robotics and advanced imaging alongside more than EUR 100 million from the Dutch government and EUR 150 million of private financing from Invest-NL and institutional investors. In the US, an ARPA-H award of up to USD 34 million will support AI-enabled robotic stroke care using the Azurion platform. The European COMBINE-CT project entered clinical validation with five studies assessing an integrated care pathway using AI-powered CT and Spectral CT imaging. Ontario Health selected the Philips Enterprise Imaging Vendor Neutral Archive to modernize imaging infrastructure across more than 150 hospitals and 50 clinics, supporting sharing of over 20 million imaging studies annually. In Latin America, Philips is supporting healthcare modernization across 50 public hospitals in Venezuela and expanding collaboration with Mexico’s IMSS. In China, a long-term strategic partnership with Asia Medical Group aims to develop integrated cardiovascular care through clinical activity, training, research and international cooperation.

Outlook for 2027 and Medium-Term Ambitions

Watch this space for the next test: whether stronger orders translate into sustained sales and cash generation while Philips continues to manage its legal exposure. The company plans to showcase its next innovations at RSNA later this month.
