Most of what sits in a kitchen is simple enough that nobody thinks about how it fails. This week the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission put four of them on the table: a glass French press, a high chair, a pressure washer and a children’s ceiling swing.
Bodum French press
The big one is Bodum USA’s recall of 5.9 million French press coffee makers with replaceable 8- and 12-cup glass carafes. Under the hood, the problem is plain glass behaving like glass. A carafe that is cracked or damaged can break during use, and stirring with a metal spoon is one way to get there. Bodum has had 70 reports of breakage, 48 of them involving burns. The models named are Bistro, Brazil, Caffettiera, Chambord, Crema, Java, Jesper and Kenya, and the Bodum name appears on the frame and inner lid of most. They sold from 1974 through October 2026 at roughly $15 to $65. Owners should stop stirring with metal and ask Bodum for a plastic spoon and warning label. Bodum, for its part, called the incident rate extremely low given the millions sold.
bblüv Grow high chairs
Here the defect is in the restraint, which was not preassembled. That creates fall and entrapment hazards. The CPSC says bblüv Group has not agreed to an acceptable corrective action plan, so there is no remedy to wait for. Parents are told to stop using the chairs and dispose of them.
PowRyte pressure washers
These electric washers have no ground-fault circuit interrupter near the power plug, the component that cuts power when current leaks, so a fault can mean shock or electrocution. They were sold on Amazon and eBay for $92 to $320. The responsible company, Powell Works, has not answered recall requests. Unplug the unit, cut the cord, throw it out, and do not sell or give it away.
Harkla ceiling swings
Harkla is recalling more than 25,500 sensory swings sold in the U.S., plus about 5,500 in Canada, because the ceiling hook can separate from its plate. There have been 29 reports of that happening and 14 injuries, including two concussions and a broken arm. Only swings with the four-hole hook are covered; they have a blue fabric seat and sold for $100 to $130 between March 2020 and December 2025. The packaging SKU reads LS-COMP-1BLU or LS-COMP-1BLU-SW. Harkla will send a free kit with a new hook mounting plate, a safety strap and updated installation instructions. Call 844-442-7552 or email [email protected].
